Holiday festivities at Prairie Lights
There are several holiday events near Lake Ridge in December, and we don’t want you to miss out on any of the fun, or the opportunity to help someone less fortunate. Mark your calendars and read on!
Lake Ridge’s Charity of The Heart
Like so many North Texans, Lake Ridge is immersed in the spirit of giving. In the past, the community has collected gently used clothing, coats, and food items for local charities, and they are continuing the practice this year. The Property Owners Association of Lake Ridge Board of Directors would like to give back to the community again by showing “Lake Ridge’s Charity of The Heart.” They will be collecting the following items in the Lake Ridge Clubhouse:
- Unwrapped toys for needy children
- Non-perishable food items for the food pantry
- Gift cards to Walmart, Target, Babies R Us, etc.
- Coats and winter wear
- Full-size toiletries (body wash, deodorant, razors, shaving cream, etc.)
- Hand soap
- Paper towels
- Toilet paper
- Resources: Maternity books, books on parenting, devotionals, etc.
- Journals
Anyone who would like to participate in Lake Ridge’s Charity of The Heart can bring their donated items to the Clubhouse at 100 Lake Ridge Parkway by December 18 so they can be delivered to the charities. Prairie Lights
Make sure you get over to Prairie Lights between now and December 31 for an impressive light display and the can’t-miss Holiday Village. The light show, powered by Gexa Energy, features four million lights along two miles of driving paths. Halfway through, the Holiday Village is the place to find the Light Show Theater and the Lighted Walk-Through Forest, plus gifts and concessions, all hosted by Santa. Penn Farm
Visit the historic Penn Farm in Cedar Hill on Saturday, Dec. 18 from 6:30–8pm for a good old-fashioned Christmas. Take a tour of the farm by lantern, followed by a Christmas carol sing-along around the campfire with hot chocolate, hot apple cider, cookies and holiday treats.
Uptown Village
Forget the ice and sleet—Uptown Village has real snow! Come to the Village Green between now and December 21 on Fridays and Saturdays for snow every half-hour from 6:30pm–8:30pm and see Santa! Take a photo with Santa daily through Christmas Eve. And on Tuesdays, December 10 and 17 from 6-8pm, you can bring your dog to the Village Green for Santa photos!
Grand Prairie Holiday Market
If you’re looking for the perfect holiday craft or gift, head out to the Grand Prairie Holiday Market at the Farmers Market on Saturday, December 14 and 21, open from 8am–1pm. This is your last change to hit the Farmer’s Market before it closes for the winter season.

It’s days until the official beginning of the Black Friday Shopping Season, which now also includes Thanksgiving in most stores; Walmart, Best Buy, Target, and Kmart are starting their sales on Thanksgiving night with doorbusters being offered in record numbers and at prices that are predicted to be low enough to entice people away from second helpings. make people put down their leftovers and pick up their keys.
Keeping track of the best deals and when they go on sale is a tall order. Lake Ridge likes a deal as much as anyone (which is obvious from the great value that is offered on our acreage homesites in DFW’s premier lake community), so we’ve examined all the ads and created a Black Friday Cheat Sheet to help you figure out what to buy, when, and where to buy it on Black Friday.
Must-haves for the home
If there’s anything that beats sitting outside enjoying a view of Joe Pool Lake, it’s sitting outside enjoying a view of Joe Pool Lake in front of an outdoor fire feature. These two Black Friday deals from Lowe’s make it easier:
Lowe’s is also offering great deals on appliances, including this Samsung 3 series 3.6-cu ft High-Efficiency Front-Load Washer and|7.3-cu ft Electric Dryer regularly priced at $1798, Black Friday price $1198 for the pair.
BFads.net notes that Home Depot is offering many of the same deals on Black Friday, but Lowe’s “offers a 110% price-match policy, so anything you see at Home Depot that is also carried at Lowe’s can be purchased at a 10% discount.”
Electronics
Many of the big retailers on Black Friday will be offering some of the best deals of the year on flat-screen TVs and other electronics, and people will be snapping up the deals and coming back for more. “America’s appetite for flat-panel TVs remains strong with 19 percent of households planning to make a television purchase this year,” according to a report just released by America’s Research Group and Inmar.
And it’s no wonder, said NBC News. “As predicted, it’s crazy this year: You can get a 70-inch HDTV for $998, and if you are excited about the new Ultra HD TVs — these are the ones also known as 4K TVs, with screen resolutions of 2160 x 3840 — you can get one for $750. Considering some of these TVs listed for nearly $10,000 not six months ago, that’s pretty extreme.”

Important Black Friday Info To Help Your Search
Getting the best deals on Black Friday is about knowing where to go and having a plan once you get there. Here are a few tips that can help:
- Walmart is offering its doorbusters in three different timeframes on Thanksgiving night and Black Friday. Be sure to check their ad for details. Their ”1 Hour In-Stock Guarantee” on many of their doorbusters means more inventory than previous years on some of the hottest items, but be experts advise shoppers to show up early for TVs and tablets.
- Kohl’s Cash is being offered to shoppers for every $50 spent from Tuesday, Nov. 26 through Sunday, Dec. 1.
- Best Buy’s Black Friday sale starts at 6pm on Thanksgiving night, but BFads.net advises that “Tickets good for the purchase of doorbuster items will be handed out to those in line as early as 4pm!”
- Target is offering “Pre Black Friday deals and daily doorbusters” on their website Nov. 24-27. You can also enter your zip code on their website to get a handy map of all in-store doorbusters. Walmart plans to release their in-store maps the week of Black Friday.
- Don’t show up at Costco or Nordstrom on Thanksgiving. Both stores have announced they will be closed for the day.
